New Year, Healthier Living

Sports, for some may sound like work but it is definitely the best way to save money, and to improve our “Quality of Life”. Everyone seems worried about saving money for the future, saving whilst working like an animal in order to rest later on. Well, I can’t see much logic in that, but hey, I won’t discuss it now… Important is that most of us work our asses off, having no time for friends and family, hobbies, arts and sports… And then when we reach 64, we haven’t done anything exciting and we do not have the same amount of energy anymore; unless we do something about it. That’s why I say that practising sports is half-way for a joyful living now and later, because we naturally avoid future health problems, avoiding at the same time spending our retirement money on health issues. And then dancing, skiing or a quick sprint to catch the tram won’t be a problem anymore either.

Swimming is said to be one of the best options, if not the best. Yoga and Pilates for flexibility, core strength and balance; jogging and cycling for cardio and working out at the gym are some of many things one can do. There are many interesting programmes with loads of different objectives like Body Pump, Kick Power and so on….it’s just a matter of picking our favourite sport and start having fun. Yeah, we need it too in order to have a healthier life.

What about Diet? What to eat? Whenever we think we know that what we eat is good for us, we read somewhere that scientists only recently discovered that a certain product is not as good as they advertised. For instance we learn in the food guide pyramid the amounts of what we should eat and from what group of food. Of course nutritionists do not approve most of it, and especially the milk group causes a lot of controversy. I’m a diary products fan, I must confess. It is hard to think that I’m going to eradicate all milk, yoghurt, ice cream, cheese… but I came to the conclusion it is bad for me, and I’m cutting with it…little by little…got better already by eliminating UHT milk…

To drink water is definitely fundamental!! 4 litres a day is what I should drink….I’m fairly active.

I’ll be posting lists with info on food, like 5 food items a week, or at least I’ll try… :)

Something that greatly improved my health, was reducing stress in about 70%…I used to live in a really polluted and noisy place, but not anymore! Still have to deal with airplane and church noise tough (f*@k|n’ bells :( )… but the air is considerably better.

Steam bath has been helping as well, and if I had the money I would surely try to have acupuncture and massage appointments every week.

And for now that’s about it. Have a good and healthy year! Take care!
